Inform the chiefs of tools needed for your presentation 

Logistics:

  • Resident report dates assigned early in a wards month​

  • Send your resident report to the chiefs 48H prior to presentation

  • Please target high-yield topics, particularly in the beginning of the year for intern learning

  • Target a presentation of  5-8 slides (not including questions)

  • Include 1-2 MKSAP questions pertinent to your topic at the end of the presentation

​​​Let the chiefs know if you have questions so we can help you make memorable, informative, interactive reports! ​​​​

​​​​​​Ideas:

​

  • Giving an update on clinical guidelines or landmark trials

  • Share 1-3 Things we do for no reason

  • Making your resident report into a game

  • Doing a flipped classroom approach that focuses on management and clinical reasoning

    • i.e. focus on how management decisions change depending on the clinical context of the patient

  • Social Determinants of health. 

    • Ie how to adjust treatment for housing/financial insecurities

  • Reviewing a diagnostic or management schema

  • Discussing an illness script

  • Choosing a topic that you find interesting and sharing it with your colleagues

    • i.e. in flight emergency

​General Presentation tips:

​

  • Emphasize pictures, minimize text

  • 1-3 learning objectives with 1-3 corresponding teaching points can help structure the presentation

  • Ask specific questions to the audience for focused discussion​

  • Use a think-pair-share model to facilitate conversation

    • benefit: reduces silence, gives you  time to evaluate how it’s going

  • Take pauses as needed

  • Start working on your presentation early!
