Housestaff Council
The HSC has is involved with a list of annual events and projects, including: Intern welcome party, collaboration with PCH Global Health interest group, Program Improvement Committees, Applicant Interviews, Thanksgiving at Homebase Youth Services, annual holiday party, Holiday Helpers Christmas adopt-a-family, Saturday Scrubs volunteer events, Hopefest, Intern Appreciation night, and the resident-to-resident Mentorship program.

Meet Your HSC:
President: Kristen Young
Your President overseas monthly housestaff council meetings, collaborates with council members to identify goals for the academic year, ensures ongoing progress of committees, spearheads yearly events, and works closely with Dr. O’Malley, faculty and chief residents.
Vice president: Suzanne Davis
Your VP assists the president with meetings - time, location, agenda; acts as part of several committees, and ensures follow through with committee assignments. The individual elected in the spring is preferably on the opposite track from the President to run meetings on non-call months.
Secretary: Esa Rayyan
Your secretary solicits updates from committees for meeting agendas, types meeting minutes and follow up correspondence, updates IM residency message board, and must be present at each council meeting.

These individuals represent their classes, obtain feedback from their class about ideas/suggestions on various aspects of
resident life including rotations, attendings,
social events, etc.
Ambulatory Clinic Representatives: Christina Bentley and Matt Techathaveewat
These individuals correspond with Dr. Peterson and act as liaisons between clinic and residents.
GME Committee:
Iza Agauyo, Paul Muna Aguon, and Mfon Udoko
GMEC representatives assist with improving ITE scores, board prep, job hunting, and fellowship timelines with chiefs. They also attend GME committee meetings monthly and resident council meeting (all residency programs) quarterly.
Recruitment/Social Committee:
Jit Nandi, Madhav Chopra, Mayur Patel, and Kaivan Selehpour
This committee helps with organizing the mentorship program and welcome events during orientation. They actively work as liaisons to the Program Directors’ offices during the recruitment of new residents including applicant tours, and recruitment breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. They help plan social events for residents, including Intern Appreciation Night, the holiday party/recruitment end party, and service events like the Christmas adopt-a-family program.
GME Quality and Safety:
Allysia Houser and Tom Marston
These residents work closely with the VA Q&S Chief and VA Q&S committee to improve patient safety and quality of care. They also attend Banner Q&S monthly committee meetings.
ACP Representatives:
Robert Drutel and Aaron Silver
These individuals represent our program at the state ACP organization. They call in each month and participate in a statewide ACP meeting with the other IM programs. They also work on an Arizona ACP Journal Clubs. Finally, they represent our residents at ACP conferences and Doctors Day on the Hill.
IT and Informatics Representatives:
Byron Reichert and Andrew Lo
This committee follows up University of Arizona Residency Program website, issues with Dragon, deficits in order sets, or other IT and informatics issues. They communicate directly to the groups that can help to implement changes.
Bioethics Committee:
Salam Mohammed and Abby Borhan
These individuals serve on the hospital Ethics Committee as representatives of the internal medicine residency.
Social and Service Committee Representatives:
Shirin Nafisi, Azeen Elahi, and Jessica Fraker
This committee follows up University of Arizona Residency Program website, issues with Dragon, deficits in order sets, or other IT and informatics issues. They communicate directly to the groups that can help to implement changes.
GME Wellness Committee Representatives: Paul Broker and Allysia Houser
These individuals correspond with Dr. Peterson and act as liaisons between clinic and residents.
